Rehabilitation and Signalisation of Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak Railway Line Project

Scope of the Project Work: The Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak Railway Line is 415 kilometres long. Currently it is a single line without signalization and electrification systems. The rehabilitation, signalization and telecommunication systems will be constructed under the project. The project is divided into two phases. The First Phase comprises the Zonguldak-Karabük section (124 kilometres main line), while the Second Phase comprises the Karabük-Irmak section (291 kilometres main line).

Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Köseköy-Gebze Section of the Ankara-İstanbul High Speed Train Project

Scope of the Project Work: The Köseköy-Gebze railway line is approximately 56 kilometres long. It is a double line and forms one of the high intensity Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railway line sections. The infrastructure and superstructure of the line will be constructed under the project and its electrification, signalization and telecommunication systems shall be completed.

The line became operational in July 2014 and the Ankara-Istanbul High Speed Train continues working to the satisfaction of passengers.

Modernisation of Samsun-Kalın Railway Line Project

Definition of the Project Work: The Samsun-Kalın railway line is 378 kilometres long. It is a single line that has no signalization and electrification systems. The rehabilitation of the line shall be realised within the framework of the project and its signalization systems will be integrated.

Work to renew this line began in 2015 with the financial assistance of the European Union in the context of the Transport Operational Programme. The total cost of the Samsun-Kalın Railway Line Renewal Project will be 259 million Euros. Of this, 220 million Euros is being financed with the grant from the European Union, while 39 million Euros is being financed with resources from the Republic of Turkey. The special feature of this project is that it is the highest amount to be realised with grants from the EU, outside the EU’s borders.

The project, realised by the Çelikler, Gülermak and AZD Joint Venture is still under construction.

Establishment of a “Transport Information Management System” for the TEN-T in Turkey

The project would be realised through the implementation of all the transportation lines and facilities that are included in the TEN-T network of Turkey. In this framework:

  • A system based on the Geographic Information System would be established,

  • The transport statistics and data would be acquired, analysed and reported for all the modes of transportation in a sustainable manner and in line with the EU,

  • An information management system based on the Geographic Information System would be established including our transportation lines within the TEN-T network and all related technical information for those lines,

  • All the projects that are under construction, completed or planned through our Ministry and related organizations would take place in the system content,

  • A system enabling the evaluation and reporting of all data as well as the submission of proposals to decision-makers would be established.

The aim of the project is to increase technical and administrative capacity with regards to tender and contract management works under the Transport Operational Programme. Consulting and training services would be provided in three categories within the context of the project. In this respect, training would be provided to the Directorate of EU Investments, the internal audit units and other final beneficiaries in relation to the tender practices and tender finalization, the management and monitoring of contracts regarding construction works and service procurement.

The aim of this project is to provide assistance to the UDHB in parallel to the information and promotion guide of the EU. The project has as its objective to help the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunication in giving a message to the public and announcing that the Transport Operational Programme “is the common target of Turkey and the European Union for maintaining an efficient and balanced transportation system, while establishing and developing a transportation infrastructure that would ensure security and multimodal transportation on the future Trans-European Railway Line Networks (TEN-T).”
